Western Appalachian Region Outstanding Section Award

This award was started in the year 2000 and is awarded every year to the Section that completes all of their registrations and 990 first. The Western Section has had the honor of winning this most prestigious award nine out of ten times.

Patriot Award Presented to Staff Sgt Christopher Brown & Major Margaret Young at Dry Hills Ski Area, Watertown, NY in Central New York Region
On December 18, 2009 Region Director Noel J. Rios (center) presented Patriot Awards to Major Margaret Young (R) & Staff Sgt. Christopher Brown (L). In addition to being members of the US Army, they are also active members of the Dry Hill Ski Patrol in Watertown, NY. Major Young is a Nurse Practitioner in the US Army Reserve. She returned in July 2009 from serving 13 months in Mosul, Iraq. Margaret also works as a Nurse Practitioner for the Veterans Association in the Watertown, NY area. Since returning from active duty, Margaret has become an OEC instructor with NSP. Staff Sgt. Brown is a full time member of the U.S. Army, 10th Mountain Divsion. He returned from a 12 month tour in Wardak Province, Afghanistan on December 1, 2009. Chris finished his candidacy and became a ski patroller during the 2007-2008 ski season before being deployed. We wish them both the best in their faithful and continued service to both the United States Army and National Ski Patrol. They are our heroes! |
Patriot Star Award Presented to David Kelleher, Bradford Ski Patrol, EMARI Region
On Sunday, December 20,2009, Chris Pringle, Assistant Regional Director for the EMARI Region presented this award to David Kelleher. The nomination for the award recognized a Commendation from the Department of the Navy in regards to specific service provided on 2/25/91. During an Iraqi missle attack, Dave, along with the Surgical team he was assigned, continued to work on an injured allied soldier. He was cited for his "calm, dedicated and professional manner, which allowed this patient to be moved into a recovery area in stable condition ". |
Patriot Star Award Presented to Dick Barron at Seven Springs, WAPP Region
Dick was on the Seven Springs patrol when on January 2, 1968 he answer the call from the govermemt to report for induction. Dick was sent to Fort Gordon, Georgia for 11 weeks of training. After the training, he was sent to Vietnam, where he served in a combat zone with an artillery unit in the Dau Chang area, located about 10 miles from the Cambodian border. Dick served on active duty for over 20 months, and over a year in the Veitnam theater. |

Two Meritorious Service Awards Presented in the Western Appalachian Region

Ken Schweinsburg (L) is the Region OEC Administrator and Bob Snoby (R) is the Region EMM Coordinator. The awards were presented by Western Section Chief Guy Lombardo on October 11.

Two Division Outstanding Awards Presented in Genesee Valley Region

At the Swain Ski Patrol Awards picnic on 6/13/09, Joe Menichino (L) received the Outstanding Alpine Patroller Award and Nick Schiavetti (R) received the T. Tyler Davis Outstanding Instructor Award. These had been announced at the Spring Officers' Meeting but kept confidential until the presentation. The Awards were presented by outgoing RD Mike Lord, who was presented with a National Distinguished Service Award at the same event.
