Peter Neefus

Peter is a second-generation patroller, starting his patrolling career at Catamount in 1978. He received his senior classification in 1980 and became an S&T Trainer/Evaluator at the local and regional levels in 1982. He received a National Appointment #6577 in 1985 and became a NSP WEC (OEC) instructor in 1987. In 1992, Peter achieved his Certified Classification. He received a Purple Merit Star in 2000.
Peter has been involved at many levels throughout his patrolling career. At the Regional level, he has served as an OEC and OET Instructor and Trainer/Evaluator and IT, Regional S&T (OET) Supervisor, Section Chief, Assistant Region Director, Region Director and Regional awards advisor. He also made contributions to in the early development of the “Women’s Program”, “Snow Boarding” Program and “Skier Enhancement” Program.
At the Eastern Division level, he has served on the ED S&T (OET) Staff (2 Years) and Steering Committee (25+ Years). In 2003, he served on the ED’s Governance/Bylaws Committee which was tasked to rewrite the ED Bylaws to incorporate the “one patroller one vote” concept. (These revisions served as a template at the National level following the 2005-2006 membership action that resulted in a completely new set of NSP by-laws.) He has also been an active OEC, OET, LAR, LE, and ORM instructor/trainer and an evaluator for the ED Certified program over the past 30+ years. He has served as the ED Certified Program’s Recertification Chair (18 Years) and the ED Certified program’s Awards Chair (6+ Years) as well as the Certified Program Advisor for the Eastern New York Region (35 Years). Peter has also served on the ED Board of Directors (6 Years), including a1 year term term as Assistant Division Director. He also served on the ED Awards Administrator Search Committee (2011). He received a “Lifetime” Certified status in the ED Certified program (2013) and earned a “Distinguished Service Award” (2014). In 2016, he formed and chaired a “Hall of Fame” Awards committee for the ED to review potential nominees and write documentation for HOF candidates (10+). Most recently, Peter has served on the National Ski Patrol’s Business Process Committee’s Roster Formation & Registration sub-committee (2021).
