Senior Patroller OEC Module

Leadership, Decision-Making & Complex Patient Management

The Senior OEC Module focuses on developing the leadership, decision-making, and problem management skills needed to effectively manage complex and high-pressure emergency situations.
Through realistic, scenario-based training, patrollers build the confidence and experience required to lead during incidents involving multiple patients, limited resources, and dynamic environments.

What You'll Learn

  • Lead and manage emergency scenes effectively
  • Make sound decisions under pressure
  • Apply problem management in complex scenarios
  • Communicate clearly with patients, patrollers, and outside resources
  • Coordinate care in multi-patient or evolving situations

How the Program Works

Training is conducted through on-snow, scenario-based exercises designed to reflect real-world situations.
  • Candidates participate in scenarios as both leader and helper
  • Scenarios evolve in real time, requiring adaptability and decision-making
  • Instructors provide feedback throughout the process
  • Emphasis is placed on leadership, not just technical skills

Program Requirements

  • Lead a minimum of four scenario problems
  • Complete written treatment plans for two scenarios
  • Develop and submit one original scenario
  • Participate fully in all training sessions

Final Evaluation

The final evaluation is conducted on snow in a mountain environment.
  • Includes one warm-up scenario and two evaluation scenarios
  • Candidates are evaluated in the leader role
  • Focus is on leadership, decision-making, and overall scene management

Aid Room Management Module

The Aid Room Management Module includes both an educational and evaluation component, encouraging patrollers to participate in written exercises, panel discussions, and realistic aid room scenarios.
This module helps develop a deeper understanding of aid room operations and related area management policies.
