Paula Knight

Primary Patrol: Mt Southington, CT
Paula joined the Mt. Southington Ski Patrol in the ski season of 1977. In 1978 she joined the Connecticut teaching team. As an American Red Cross instructor, she was able to teach both First Aid and CPR to her fellow patrollers and candidates. When National Ski Patrol introduced Winter Emergency Care (WEC), the Eastern Division developed an Instructor Trainer program to oversee administration and quality of region programming. Paula was invited to become one of Connecticut’s first two Instructor Trainers and lead the way to introducing WEC in Connecticut.
As a professional educator, Paula enjoyed not just the teaching of NSP programming but also the mentoring of new instructors. A natural addition to her teaching opportunities would include: becoming an Instructor Development Instructor and growing into the Instructor Development Instructor Trainer role.
Administratively, Paula served as Connecticut’s first female Region Director. She also served as: Region OEC Advisor, Connecticut’s Senior Testing Coordinator, the Eastern Division’s OEC Assistant Supervisor and OEC Supervisor. Committees Paula has chaired
include: the OEC Evaluation Committee, who’s responsibility it is to prepare the written tests and practical exam, the OEC Module for the Senior Program, who’s responsibility it is to prepare the testing packet and scenarios for the Senior Evaluation and lastly the
OEC Test Bank Committee, who’s responsibility it is to update the OEC Test Bank.
In 1990 Paula received her National Appointment, #7249. Other awards she has received include: three Yellow Merit Stars and the Eastern Division’s Outstanding Administrator award in 2013. Additional awards include: Connecticut’s Patroller of the Year, Connecticut’s Outstanding Instructor Award and Connecticut Region Director’s Award. On her home patrol she was honored with the Patroller of the Year and Outstanding Mentor Award.
Paula currently patrols at Mt. Southington with her husband Rick, daughter Cally Regan and son-in- law Justin Regan. Her passion is in patroller education and developing instructors. She focuses her energy on improvement of programming; curriculum and helping patrollers deliver best practices in educational programming.
